2022 - SILVER - Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show
92pts "Single-vineyard Eden Valley gewürztraminer from the Fechner Bros property in Moculta; 24 hours' skin contact. Light straw with heady aromas of rosewater, bath salts, musk, lychee, crunchy red apple, frangipani, marzipan, crushed quartz and souk-like spices. Damn, it smells inviting. The palate shows great clarity and detail and an edge of citrus, musk lollies and candied ginger with crystalline acidity and a finish that lingers in a way that is gloriously and relentlessly floral and endearing. Super stuff." - Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion
92pts "Sucked in to the floral softness and aromatics of the variety’s signature rosewater and musk. Dry talc, pink salt, pink grapefruit and baking spices swirl and evolve. Latent depth and richness bounce and race with spices and floral aromatics. Finishing tight and very dry." - Regan Drew, Vino Notebook
91pts "Pale and bright lemon-yellow in the glass. Fragrant and lifted with rose petal, musk and lychee notes on the nose and palate. As it flows with a silken glide, a hint of candied ginger offers a contrasting element. Has a richness to its texture which straddles the sweet/dry boundary with aplomb." - Stuart Knox, The Real Review
2019 92pts “Not trying to be anything but the vivacious variety that comes with the territory. Scents of rose water, peach, sweet citrus and citrus blossoms. Lovely. The palate is fleshy and juicy at once, finishes slightly nutty and the wine carries heaps of flavour very well. A good vibe here.” - Mike Bennie, WBM
92/100 "I’m a sucker for the aromatics on Gewürztraminer : the rich softness of rosewater and musk here is balanced by talc, crushed pink salt with pink grapefruit and nettle prickle. The time on skins gives depth to the palate while the natural acidity keeps it zesty and bright. All that sweetness on the nose is somewhat of a facade as this finishes chalky and dry." - Regan Drew, Vino Notebook
91pts "Varietal gewürztraminer from the Eden Valley. Bluhen Punkt translates to Blossom Point. Texture plus. All about mouthfeel. Orange oil and blossom, some lime, some lychee. Rosewater and a good deal of it. Much pleasure to be had here." - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
2017 18.25/20 "Oh so pretty! Lush rosewater and Turkish Delight….like biting deep into the dusted little pink cubes that never seem to go stale. Add some musk stick, with a citrus leaf lift, lime skin and paw paw. It may be all blossom on the nose, but the palate underscores the serious intent of the wine. Whilst there’s pink fruit aplenty, it finishes long and dry with bittersweet citrus and hints of dried tropical fruits. Complexity is borne from skin contact and provides a great counterpoint to the olfactory good times. A slightly wax send off reinforces the varietal strengths. Delicious." - Regan Drew, Vino Notebook
91pts "Varietal gewürztraminer from the Eden Valley. Bluhen Punkt translates to Blossom Point. Nice. This is the first release of this wine. It saw 24 hours skin contact. It’s both racy and floral, its lychee and rosewater aromas/flavours zipped along in fast, mouthwatering fashion, the finish then textural-bordering-on-grippy. Pleasant plus. Most enjoyable. Fresh, characterful and elegant" - Campbell Mattinson, Wine Front
90pts "Has above average varietal expression on the bouquet and palate, with exotic spice, berry, rosewater and confection notes." - Halliday Wine Companion
”The 2017 vintage is truly magnificent; subtle, slick and svelte, and so enjoyable on it’s own or with food.” - Dan Traucki, WBM

Real Review Top Rank "Bright and lively in the glass, with a decent mousse and persistent bead. Aromas of lemon pith, green apple, honey and melon skin. Fresh, lively and crunchy on the palate. Easy drinking, smart length and mouth-feel." - Rated Recommended and TOP RANK. Aaron Brasher, The Real Review
2020 90pts "Fine beading. Refreshing and fruity lemon, lime and apple with a hint of briny chalk and grassiness. Tight and fine palate with plenty of personality. This is fun, dry fizz indeed!" - Regan Drew, Vino Notebook
"Some grassy and fragrant, herbal notes with chalky nuances and sliced apples. The palate has a crisp pear and apple core. Dry and lively with some lemon peel to close. Drink now." - James Suckling Review
2018 "Lemon-lime Calippo, lemon sorbet, light and refreshing, tangy, light on in general but a pleasing, refreshing and cool bubbly white of freshness and general sense of vitality. Has a nice crunch. Easy drinking fizz." - Mike Bennie
2017 "From the Eden Valley region comes an energetic fizz, The Chaffey Bros 2017 Funkelpunkt ($28), this time a blend of riesling, kerner and gewurztraminer varieties, co-fermented and finished with a superfine bubble that gives its citrus and tropical flavours a cute lift and enhances a minerally, mouth-watering finish" - Tony Love

Cabernet Shiraz... quite possibly Australia's most iconic red blend. A true example of where 1+1=3... where the synergy of the two varieties, becomes greater than the sum of its parts. The elegance of the Cabernet offers inky black berry fruit and cassis whilst the structured Shiraz contributes rich plum and strawberry red fruits. It's textured, multidimensional, rich, complex and oh so balanced.
2021 is a benchmark vintage for the Barossa, and the quality was second-to-none for both Cabernet & Shiraz. Red wines from 2021 have been dubbed: ultra high quality, limited supply. These wines will be in demand for many years to come...
Crack open a bottle and serve it up with some super slow roasted lamb, some sticky barbecued ribs, or a humble piece of aged Gouda (complete with the lil' salt crystals and all)... oohhh yea!
Winemakers: Daniel Chaffey Hartwig + Huon Fechner + Theo Engela
93pts"Deep crimson. Restrained fragrant bouquet of red- and blackcurrant, blackcurrant leaf, and white pepper. Bright, fruit forward and juicy. Lovely buoyancy and energy, good freshness and vibrant blackberry fruit. Tannins are polished and well-integrated. Excellent balance. Drink now–2028" The Vintage Journal
91pts"Opaque purple with an ermine rim. Fleshy nose: Choc mint, turned earth, blackcurrant (and blackberry on the pull-away), a hint of cooling mint with camphor, licorice, blood plum, graphite and a little sweet oak. Sapid and initially flowing with generosity before a neat hall runner of velvety tannins. There’s a fine tartness that ensures balance to the flesh. Enjoyable drinking now." Regan Drew, vinonotebook.com
2020 92pts- "Ermine purple with bright rim. Choc/mocha, pink salt, blood plum, cabbage rose heart, big day old raspberries, cassis to blackberry and even some fresh bay leaf aromatics. Feels Cabernet dominant (even with the even split) with tight, fine, velvety tannins and a herbaceous (but not green) echo. Plenty of ripe dark fruit flesh to satisfy those seeking opulence rather than anemia. Maybe could even do a couple of years in the cellar." - Regan Drew, Vino Notebook
91pts "The classic Aussie blend: 50/50% shiraz/cabernet sauvignon from Dorrien in the central Barossa Valley. Deep crimson with vibrant fruit tones of blackberry, dark cherry, blood plum and some lighter blackcurrant pastille notes. Plenty of spicy depth with hints of licorice, dark chocolate, fruitcake, earth and graphite. Plenty of fruit depth with some herbs flowing in on the palate, Velvety, rich and opulent with a powdery tannin grip and a black-fruited finish" - Dave Brookes, Halliday
90pts – “Dark ruby with a touch of fade into the rim. Cassis, bay leaf and iodine aromatics. Dark and weighty black fruits that fills the mouth with a rich velvet tannin profile that keeps it gliding long into the finish. There's a deft touch here.” – Stuart Knox, The Real Review
2018 93/100 "Very deep red/purple colour, with a rose-petal overtone to the crushed blackberry and mulberry fruit aromas. Very attractive. Cabernet shows through, here. Concentrated and plush but light on its feet: a delicious red wine, already drinking nicely." - Huon Hooke, The Real Review
2016 95/100 "Very deep purple/red colour, with an intensely spicy aroma which reveals a lot of char-oak notes. The flavour is full and rich, concentrated, fruit-sweet and well-rounded, with some alcohol warmth and a punchy finish. A real mouthful of deliciousness." - Huon Hooke
92+ "A mix of old and new school. Deep, dark, dense fruit; toffeed/malt-like oak characters; both leather and tar aspects. All this will keep lovers of Barossa Valley reds well and truly happy. But there are also florals notes, a run of juicy boysenberry, and bright tips of mint. In short: it’s hefty, hearty and well styled." - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
2015 91 pts "Big-ish wine but it remembers its manners. Blackcurrant, sweet plum, boysenberry and coffee-cream flavours. There’s plenty to hook into here. Oak lends the wine a slippery smoothness; cabernet contributes fruit but also dust-like notes and a certain stringiness to the tannin. Shiraz helps sweeten and plump it all out. It doesn’t quite feel cohesive but it’s young." - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
91/100 "Raw with fruit and oak but generous of both. Coffee-cream, blackberry and sweet plum flavours jumble their way through the palate. It doesn't feel seamless but there's plenty here to latch onto." - Campbell Mattinson, Halliday
93/100 "Good depth and hue of colour, with a lifted ginger spice aroma, which includes some eucalytpus mint. The wine is intense and sull in the mouth, firm and elegant and showing the cabernet influence in structure as much as flavour. There's abundant fruit sweetness in the mid-palate followed by drying tannins and a clean, persistent finish. A very smart blend." - Huon Hooke, The Real Review
2014
GOLD MEDAL - Great Australian Red, 2015
93/100 "Bruising style. Oak, fruit and tannin; hefty serves of all three. Blackberries, tar, black earth and malt characters slip into mint, violet and bright raspberry. It's the epitome of the mouthfilling style."- Campbell Mattison, Halliday
2013
SILVER MEDAL - Great Australian Red, 2014
94/100 "Stern but flavoursome. Strings of smoky, minerally tannin are visible throughout, yet the drama of the fruit still plays to good effect. Blueberry, coffee, blackberry and violet-like notes. It lifts and expands as it breathes in the glass/bottle; a stint in the decanter does it no harm." - Halliday

The prior vintage 2021 EVANGELINE Eden Valley Syrah SOLD OUT in less than 48hrs after winning Decanter World Wine Award’s “BEST IN SHOW"!! (Still available for a LIMITED time in the Decanter Winners Pack or Evangeline Vertical Museum Pack)...
We have enjoyed two of the best vintages in the Eden Valley back to back and will be arguing for decades about which is better… if you liked the 2021, we truly think this one will knock your socks off!!
Stop press!!! 2021 Evangeline Single Vineyard Eden Valley Syrah takes out BEST IN SHOW out of over 18,000 wines tasted worldwide at the world's preeminent wine awards! The judges said of the Evangeline Syrah: "This is only the second Eden Valley Shiraz to fight its way to our Best in Show selection, and its emphatic, showstopping character underlines how well this slightly higher-altitude zone is suited to South Australia's favourite red variety."
EVANGELINE* presents an elegant cooler climate expression of Shiraz distinct from its Barossa Valley brethren with its lifted perfume and delicate structure. Cool blue fruits are intertwined with silky tannins and subtle oak influence from 18 months maturation in fine grain French oak puncheons and hogshead barrels. Perfumed. Confident. Elegant. NOACK FAMILY VINEYARD | SPRINGTON | 410m ALTITUDE | UNFINED | ONLY 490 CASES MADE
How will this wine evolve over time?
"Evangeline embraces the cool nature of the southern Eden Valley's higher altitude and is crafted for elegance, poise and approachable structure on release. The fine tannins and brooding, dense nature of Eden Valley fruit unfurls further with several years in the cellar. We really enjoy this wine at around five to eight years of age." - Halliday's 2024 Cellaring Selections
Winemakers: Daniel Chaffey Hartwig + Theo Engela + Huon Fechner Varietal: Syrah Region: Eden Valley Alc/Vol: 13.9% pH: 3.5 Acidity: 5.9 Bottle size: 750 mL
2022
93pts "There was me thinking that we had a wine named in tribute to The Band and that great song of theirs, 'Evangeline" (anyone who has not seen The Last Waltz - surely the greatest concert film of all time - needs to move it top of their bucket list immediately). Apparently not so. Rather, it is a biblical reference to salvation. Well, The Band did play with Dylan for so many years, so perhaps we are somewhere halfway. However one wants to interpret this, it is a heavenly red. And it has a serious pedigree, with the previous vintage winning Decanter Magazine's Best in Show. 490 dozen. This is a vibrant magenta colour with a rather savoury nose. There are earthy notes, along with black fruits, leather, beef stock, soy and cloves. Seamless in style with fine acidity and satiny tannins, there is impressive length. Good intensity throughout and yet it retains a degree of elegance, this is a wine with a very promising future. It should provide pleasure for the best part of a decade. Drink now-2034." The Vintage Journal
2021 "BEST IN SHOW" DECANTER WORLD WINE AWARDS 2024 97pts “This is only the second Eden Valley Shiraz to fight its way to our Best In Show selection, and its emphatic, show-stopping character underlines how well this slightly higher-altitude zone is suited to South Australia’s favourite red variety. The wine’s opaque black-red colour tells us that generosity is on the menu, and the first sniff shows that not only is its black cherry and plum fruit prodigiously aromatic, but also that the wine has had more than a year in oak. The plunging fruit – blackberry and blackcurrant – dominates the palate with the oak providing a little extra upholstery; and there’s a haunting citrus and lavender perfume on the palate, too, which does as much to structure the wine as the ample, gentle tannins and the curranty acidity. It’s an enjoyable and stylish wine which won’t require a long wait”
95pts "Smoky complexities to sniff, a mixture of smoked charcuterie/spicy cool-climate fruit and charry oak, nice rich fruit in there. Very appealing wine; fleshy and concentrated but elegant." Huon Hooke, The Real Review
94pts + Featured in Halliday's 2024 Cellaring Selections "Single-vineyard Eden Valley Syrah sourced from the Noack family property in Springton at 410m elevation. Plummy and pure with layers of spice, sage, liquorice, blueberry pie, violets, pepper, vanillin oak and merest whiff of mint. There is a graceful air to the fruit passage across the palate, tannins, fine but tensing on the mid-palate with a purple floral flourish on the exit." - Dave Brookes, Halliday
2020 94pts + SILVER - Abundant ripe plums and summer berry fruits, cut through with fine spice, blueberries with a whiff of vanilla and subtle, sexy French oak. There's a lovely fruit flow, some nice cool-climate crunch and a cascade of fine tannin for support. A lot to like here." - Dave Brooks, Halliday Wine Companion
SILVER - 2022 Decanter World Wine Awards
93pts "Lifted, vibrant, youthful, ripe, so pure and bright. Ripe berry fruit flavours with a touch of spice. This wine has layers of complexity with savoury nuances. Will improve with time." - Decanter Wine Magazine
93pts "Serious and cool EV Shiraz. Soaking plums, darker cassis, pencilly and vanilla oak influence (in a good way), cracked peppercorns and just a little leafy kitchen herb. Mid to full bodied with lovely flow and glide to the palate. Peering focus, narrowed eye slits drawing on purple and red fruits, nuanced with cool pepper and neatly etched tannins. Calm and serene" - Regan Drew, Vino Notebook
91pts "This has aromas of dried violets, blackcurrants, cracked pepper and sage. Fresh and bright with savory and peppery layers. Medium-bodied. All nicely wrapped up in firm, fine tannins." - James Suckling
2019 GOLD MEDAL + 95pts "A modern style of shiraz with ripe but not overripe fruit with high quality oak given just enough opportunity to make its point without dominating the argument. The fruit here is dense blues and blacks, with suggestions of vanilla and cedar. It is finished with beautifully fine, ripe tannins." - Royal Adelaide Wine Show
SILVER - 2022 Sommeliers Choice Awards
93pts "It’s always good, always reliable. This 2019 release is as good as any previous, maybe even better. It’s just so juicy. Just so perfumed. Just so enjoyable. Blueberry, boysenberry, plum and clove notes meet mint, sweet spice and woodsmoke. There’s a clear jellied/jubey aspect but there’s also a good reach of tannin, with the length to match. It’s both warm and fresh-faced at once; it’s in excellent order." - Campbell Mattison, The Wine Front
91/100 "Aromas of blue fruits, red cherry, spice and a cool menthol lift. Flavours are mid to full-bodied, the fleshy, generous blueberry and dark cherry fruit flavours are round and layered, with plenty of tannin and acid-derived structure. A well-made, soft, juicy, round and very drinkable wine." - Aaron Brasher, The Real Review
92pts "A very dark, dense colour, the nose shows lots of spice and white pepper, some quite exotic fruit and floral notes but pure and ripe blackberry and blueberry dominates. The gentle toast of the oak comes through on nose and palate, in a wine where a smooth but savoury fruit stays pliable and fresh across the mid-palate. The finish has fresh acids, very tight tannins, the oak again adding some toast in the finish" - Tom Cannavan's Wine Pages
“A lovely dark fruit character with a herbal edge to it, like a peppery gunpowder note. Gravelly tannins, a touch of sweet pastry, vanilla, nice and long, with a warmth, but the alcohol doesn’t sit outside the frame of the wine.” - Mark Pygott MW
2018 92 pts "Spice, liquorice, black fruit, sage and mint. Medium-bodied, red and black fruit, fresh, light tannin, lively, good finish. Easy to like. Affable and regional." - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
2016 95/100 "Fresh plum, dry spice and dried banana-like aromas, fruit-driven and fresh, with some Rhône-ish notes. The palate has linearity and fleshy concentration, with ample soft tannins and refreshing acidity. A very appealing wine, the texture being a highlight. It drinks superbly already." - Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine, Huon Hooke
93/100 "It might be Eden Valley but using syrah on the label might raise an eyebrow. What's not in question is its drinkability. A fruit basket of berries, a raft of spices, it's juicy and so vibrant. It has tannins and acidity to ensure it'll age but gee, it's too good to wait for, so pour away." - Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion
92 pts "The Eden Valley and shiraz/syrah. A match made in heaven. Aromatic, spicy, floral, almost peppery. It doesn’t jump out of its skin but it does stand up to say hello. Plums, toast, roasted peppercorns, nuts. It unfolds as it breathes. It’s mid weight in a good way. Complex but not challenging or in-your-face. Drinkable and accessible and yet inscribed with fine tannin. The pitch, just right." - Campbell Mattison, The Wine Front
92 pts "Rich, ripe blackberry with plenty of spice and well-knit, savory elements. A rich, blackberry palate with supple, even tannins. Very approachable now. Screw cap." - James Suckling Reviews
2015 95/100 "Deepish red/purple hue, with a lifted floral aroma, clean and fresh and aromatic. The palate is similar, not big or heavy but intense and spicy, red-fruited and elegant, and finishing long on the aftertaste, with abundant firm tannins. There's lovely fruit-sweetness in the middle and a certain raspberry jam Eden Valley signature. Excellent." - Huon Hooke
93/100 "The flavour profile is sweeter than the word 'syrah' might imply but the wine's quality is never in doubt. Flavours of port wine jelly, pure plum, sweet raspberry and assorted dry/twiggy spices fill out the palate well; nutty tannin then completes the picture perfectly. Throughout the wine feels fluid and supple, making it a pleasure to spend time with." - Campbell Mattinson, Halliday
92 pts "Char-grilled pepper steak, black fruits and boot polish, a whiff of dried herb. Medium bodied, meaty and savoury, with pastille and prune, grainy tannin, a slight angularity to the palate with an almost ‘metallic’ feel, though not in a bad way, I’d add, and a spicy red and black fruited finish. A wilder more bunchy style of Barossa Shiraz, but pretty nicely done." - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
2014 92/100 "Red berries, boysenberries, spice and violets. It has some blackberried or at least plummy depth but the wine's sheer drinkability is conjured with soft fingers of highly accessible flavour. It has the acid/tannin structure to age, and the balance, but it's hard to find a good reason not to tuck in right now." - Campbell Mattinson, Halliday

Our most awarded wine. With two Gold medals and five 95 point reviews by the most respected wine critics in Australia and UK in the first month of release it’s just getting started. Our flagship Single Vineyard Shiraz. Ten years ago we began our search for a truly iconic Barossa Shiraz vineyard. We are now excited to reveal the sixth vintage of ELIJAH* Eden Valley Shiraz! Hailing from the revered Fechner brothers’ Moculta vineyard in the Northern Eden Valley, it is a powerful wine incorporating new French oak from France’s oldest family cooperage, Leroi. Now available in three pack option with 10% off and free shipping!
How will this evolve over time? Elijah is a powerhouse showcase of the Eden Valley, a unique combination of elegance and intensity, powerful fruit with structure. My conviction and experience is that a wine that shows balance and dense structure early on will make for an age worthy wine worth cellaring. Elijah's layered tannins and brooding, dense nature will become even more complex with a further five to 10 years in the cellar." - Halliday's 2024 Cellaring Edition

Layered and intriguing, finishing long and savoury.” Drink now–2031

95pts + Featured in Halliday's 2024 Cellaring Edition "The 2021 Barossa vintage continues to deliver the goods! Sporting a super vibrant colour in the glass and detailed aromas of juicy plum, blueberry, exotic spice, wildflowers, dark chocolate, liquorice, vanillin oak, turned earth and charcuterie. Velvety plush in the mouth with powdery tannin and a wonderful fruit presence and flow; long and true. It's a cracker." - Dave Brookes, Halliday
95pts "Alluring notes of iodine mix with spiced black plums, raspberries and vanilla on the nose. It's brooding and needs air to flex its muscles. On the palate a rich core of fruit intertwines with savoury notes of coffee and fresh leather. The shape of wine is long and the flavours last. It needs time as it's a beautifully complex, full bodied red with a lot to offer, all the while remaining bouyant on the palate. A delicious modern shiraz." - Gabrielle Poy, The Real Review
2020:
GOLD MEDAL - 2022 Barossa Wine Show
GOLD MEDAL - 2022 Syrah du Monde, France
SILVER MEDAL - 2023 Decanter Wine Awards, UK
SILVER MEDAL - 2022 Decanter Wine Awards, UK
SILVER MEDAL - 2022 Melbourne International Wine Competition
95pts "Deep colour and a meaty/spicy/toasty and roast meat bouquet that is quite complex already. Some floral and regional dried herb notes, hinting at thyme and oregano. The wine is full bodied and concentrated, with ample firm tannins supplying structure and ageing potential. A serious red with loads of character." - Huon Hooke, The Real Review
94pts "Deep, purple-splashed crimson with notes of dark blackberry and ripe dark plums. Hints of baking spices, sage, black pepper, cassis, dark chocolate and graphite. There's a cassis-like richness to the fruit flow, densely packed granitic tannins and a chocolatey tide on the deep, black-fruited finish" - Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion
2019:
SILVER MEDAL - Decanter World Wine Awards
SILVER MEDAL - International Wine Challenge (London) "Ripe, intense blackberry fruit, a rich mouthful of ripe tannins and super-concentrated fruit. Spicy oak, very full-bodied with a powerful finish."
SILVER MEDAL - Sommeliers Choice Awards
95pts "Really youthful, deep and dark in the glass. Intense aromatics of blood plum, dark chocolate, vanilla bean, licorice, bouquet garni and Asian spice. The palate is opulently flavoured: really dark, plummy fruits, blackberries, chocolate, and layered. There's some lovely oak that plays it part as well. There's plenty going on in this wine: it is decadently flavoured, but the tannins and acidity do their thing and make sure the fruit behaves" - Aaron Brasher, The Real Review
95pts "Flagship wine from the higher Eden Valley, Polished and dark, Blackberry, clack cherry, sandalwood, incense smoke with vanila bean paste and mushroom fin earthiness." - Regan Drew, Wine Words
94pts "It’s the one wine in the Chaffey range that I routinely struggle with but this release is a ripper. It’s big and throaty but it’s creamy smooth too; it has both grain and slip, its inherent, grunty tannin rolling through asphalt, blackberry, gum leaf and toast. It’s both big on flavour and big on quality. This has been pushed to its limits, and has noticeable warm alcohol to show for it, but it remains complete and convincing." - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
2018:
SILVER MEDAL - Syrah du Monde (France)
2016:
GOLD - 95pts International Wine Challenge (London)
"Youthful with smoke and black fruit. Dark, intense, concentrated, velvety tannins. Soft-toned with notes of spice, blackfruit and dark cherry."
94pts "Inky, deep and dark red of blackcurrant fruit, booze-soaked berries, walnut whiffs and sweet spice. Lavish, lush texture, rolls around the palate nicely, lingers for what seems forever and has all that hustle of a big red wrapped in a velvety cloak of goodness. One for the big red lovers, but those who know the tightrope walk of flavour, freshness and winemaking balance" - Mike Bennie for WBM
93pts "This takes a bold, dark and rich stance on the nose and palate with chocolate, dark-plum and graphite aromas, leading to a ripe dark-berry core that is framed in long, supple and even tannins." - James Suckling
92/100 "Deep, dark red colour with purple and black tinges. The bouquet is high-toned - as in volatile acidity (VA) and/or lifted alcohol, while it's full-bodied and dense, with a lot of tannin and chew and loads of grunt. A big wine. The VA is not a problem except for purists and technocrats and it would respond well to extended cellaring." - Huon Hooke
2015:
96pts "Deep colour and a rich, complex, earthy bouquet which features smoky, char-oak and other savoury nuances. There is terrific flavour here and excellent depth and weight. The wine is balanced and stylish, with savoury and fruit-sweet elements perfectly balanced. Black plums and savoury notes. The finish lingers on and on. A stylish and individual style of shiraz, and a gorgeous drink." - Huon Hooke

Calling all Riesling freaks! Impress your tribe with these ultra-limited party starters before they're gone forever. With only 50 bottled from the epic 2024 vintage, this is a chance to secure a piece of history!
Tripelpunkt* - 3 distinct blocks & aspects of one legendary vineyard - the Fechner family’s Eden Valley vineyard in the limestone laden Angaston hills is reknowned for exquisite and exotic Riesling with vines as old as 60+ years on the 1964 block.
The extended cool season in vintage ‘24 made for a benchmark year for Eden Valley Riesling. Tripelpunkt means “triple point”, a name that both alludes to it being a single vineyard wine comprised of three distinct blocks & aspects and our ongoing quest to make the perfect Riesling.
Tripelpunkt is exotic, alluring and versatile; a thirst-slaking luscious style that finds every corner of your palate. Textural and balanced with great natural acidity this is a versatile Riesling with all types of cuisine from fresh oysters and kingfish sashimi to Korean Fried Chicken or a picnic cheese platter.
Winemakers: Daniel Chaffey Hartwig, Huon Fechner + Theo Engela Region: Eden Valley Alcohol: 12.5%
2024 ~ Too new for reviews! But here are some thoughts from the Chaffey winemakers:
"Amazing acidity & fruit quality. Fruit in perfect condition this year. Even-ripening season. We were all so excited to bottle this one...at this stage 2024 promises to be a Riesling vintage for the record books!"
2023
93pts "Pretty aromas of citrus blossom, white flowers, lemon pith and wet slate. Quite juicy, fresh and zesty on the palate. There's a lusciousness of lemon and lime, along with tangy, pithy acidity. There's lovely texture, mouth-feel and presence, and the length is impressive. A smart (almost) off-dry style of riesling." - Aaron Brasher, The Real Review
Tripelpunkt* - Our most popular Riesling, an exercise in all-round deliciousness. One Vineyard - 3 distinct blocks & aspects of the Fechner family Eden Valley vineyard. An elusive triumvirate: precision, texture & balance. Hand-picked | whole-bunch pressed | 6 hours on skins | Wild Ferment
Winemakers: Daniel Chaffey Hartwig, Theo Engela + Huon Fechner Region: Eden Valley Alcohol: 12.5% pH: 3.1 Acidity: 6.6TA Bottle size: 1500 mL
92pts "Very pale hue. Talc and baby powder with sweet white blossom, rosewater, apple skin, flint, mandarin and stone fruit skin. Neatly etched, textural frame with delicacy balanced by enough generosity of sweet flesh to allow consumption now or later." - Regan Drew, vinonotebook.com
91pts "Bright pale lemon-yellow tint. Papaya, sweet spice and talcum aromatics. A fuller style of riesling with plump lime and green papaya fruit. Made in an off-dry style but there’s ample acidity and a wet stone mineral note that seems to balance it well. Will work with some spicy dishes." - Stuart Knox, The Real review
2021 94pts “A tart, tense web of crackling acidity, there’s juiciness and a sense of very high drinkability. Sourdough, ginger and preserved lemon scents. Quite rich and forward in perfume but wholly appealing. Green apple and ripe citrus fruit characters with nutty savouriness in tow. Seriously appealing, savoury style.” - Mike Bennie, Gourmet Traveller Wine
92pts “Interesting nose, lime blossom with a touch of tobacco leaf development. Honeyed and textured with gentle freshness. Elegant and fine” - Roger Jones, Decanter
93pts "Flint, spice and baby powder talc underscored by apple flesh, lime skin, mandarin pith and a suggestion of white stone fruit. Textural dry grip defines this and doesn’t denigrate from the lightness and exactness of the finish. Open and approachable." - Regan Drew, Vino Notebook
91pts "Super fresh aromatics and some flint, as well as lemon, lime and spice. Lots of talc. The palate has a juicy, fleshy feel with an open-knit apple and lime focus. Drink now. Chalky. Screw cap." - James Suckling Reviews
2020 93pts "Made for texture and complexity, this has a thread of wet slate to the abundant, fine and fresh lemon-peel and peach aromas. The palate is very smooth, soft and almost fleshy with an edge of fresh, lemon-lime acidity cutting a crisp, pure finish." - James Suckling Reviews
91/100 "Light, bright yellow colour, with a restrained but clean aroma that is mineral and earthy, and only lightly floral or fruity. The wine shows more fruit on the palate where it is soft and rounded, not entirely bone-dry, but lovely balance is the overall impression. There is real richness to the follow-through, enhanced by a touch of tannin grip." - Huon Hooke, The Real Review

30 Best Australian Wines Under $30 - Boss Hunting
93pts "Intense citrus fruit - lemon curd and lime sherbet - with a hint of honey on the zesty persistent finish" - 2022 International Wine Challenge, London
93pts + SILVER - 2022 Decanter Wine Awards
93/100 "Pale yellow colour, with a lifted fragrance of fresh flowers and whispers of citrus blossoms. The wine is just off-dry, the sweetness helping make it more approachable at this tender age. It's very young and bright, will live long and reward cellaring, and it is delicious now. The balance is superb." - Huon Hooke, The Real Review
92/100 "Refreshing and delicate nose: delivering damp stones, citrus pith (both mandarin and lime), apple flesh with plenty of light floral blossom and a hint of sweeter honeysuckle. Dry, and showing fine purity as the fruit tails into a textural, structural exploration. Acidity is bright and bracing, leaving a balanced juxtaposition of refreshment and thirst." - Regan Drew, Vino Notebook
90pts "Bright, floral, fresh, slightly soapy, some apple concentrate and lime essence stuff going on, feels a bit concocted and non-grape fruity but also settles into being a decent drink, adult cordial style. Mouth-watering acidity a lovely feature and finishes the wine really well. Decent drinking." - The Wine Front
Top Picks “Attractive aromas of beeswax, toast, lime zest and ginger. Perhaps some skin contact at work here with a pithy viscosity and a richness to the palate. The racy acidity and talc notes reign in the fruit to give a long, persistent and drying finish.” - Justin Purser, Young Gun of Wine
2018 93/100 "Very light, bright yellow hue. The aroma is fresh and bright also, with lovely crisp lemon-blossom notes, the palate is juicy and refined, off-dry, delicate and yet also intense with quite good persistence, the finish clean and appetising. It's not overly dry, but harmonious and approachable. A very smart riesling." - Huon Hooke, The Real Review
91pts "Old vine riesling grown on three Eden Valley sites: Springton, Flaxman Valley, Angaston Hills. Such a fine-boned release. It’s not an intense wine but it runs on such delicious lines. Florals and talc, mineral and cool cucumber. Or something like that. Chilled on a warm day; perfect." - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
2017 Silver Medal + 94pts - 2020 International Wine Challenge (London)
93/100 "The bouquet is of lemon sherbet - like opening a packet of 'Whizz-Fizz', a childhood memory, then a swirl of honeysuckle, white flowers and sweet citrus. Flavours of ripe red apple and nectarine, a thread of sweetness just perceptible but skilfully woven into the fabric of the wine." - Steven Creber, Halliday
93pts "Exquisite riesling. Floral fluid, gently textural, bursting with life, pure. Slatey, gunmetal-like character meets lemon sorbet and an assortment of florals. It's as delicious as it is fine." - Campbell Mattison, The Wine Front
2016 Top 100 SA Wines - Tony Love
92pts "Soft. Some spritz. Minerally, smoky, almost yeasty. A different expression of Eden Valley riesling in a way and yet there’s a clear, pure, citrussy line, a touch of talc and a general impression of reserve. It’s hard not to become enamoured. Sweetness here is modest at most. Basically it just drinks really well" - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
91/100 "It takes time to get into this because it's not a classic Eden Valley riesling - whole-bunch pressed after 18 hours on skins. Instead it has a savoury tone, texture and chewy phenolics, a smidge of cinnamon, star anise and glace lemon rind." - Jane Faulkner, Halliday
93pts “Waxy honey, caramel, toasty aromas with underlying baked lemon pastry notes. Generous, supple wine with developed biscuity lemon curd flavours, fine chalky textures and lovely mineral soft saline acidity.” - Andrew Caillard, Gourmet Traveller Wine
93/100 "Three Eden Valley vineyards, handpicked, half of the crop spending time on skins. 6g/l residual sugar. Presents as delicate but lengthy with lime rind/juice and slate flavours floating convincingly through the palate. Gently textural. More soft than sweet. Beautiful style of wine." - Campbell Mattinson, Halliday
"Nose of lime, honey subtle with hints of Roseanne. fresh gooseberries, fool on the palate and a gorgeous balancing sweetness. Very long finish." - 2021 International Wine Challenge

Made from handpicked Old Vine Barossa Grenache and Mourvèdre... with a dash of Eden Valley whites for X-factor. It's aromatic, juicy and dry, but laden with Old Vine Grenache gives an impression of subtle sweetness. GOLD + 95pts- Melbourne Royal Wine Awards 2022
93pts "Pale salmon in the glass with notes of redcurrant, raspberry, blood orange and red cherry wrapped in the embrace of some high-toned blossom flourishes along with hints of marzipan and crushed stone and maybe some Turkish delight further in the distance. Snappy and tight on the palate with a touch of tangerine peel and soft spice entering the mixing as the wine finishes crisp and vital thanks to a seam of shimmering acidity. Pretty hard to put this one down" - Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion

2023
92pts “Pale lemon colour. Fragrant aromas of gardenia, lime zest and lemon curd lift from the glass. Bright green apple, musky florals and chalk characters fill the palate as it carries with lift of light and bright acidity... a lot going on throughout and it manages to show a seamless flow even at such a young age.” - Stuart Knox, Real Review
2022 SILVER - Melbourne International Wine Competition
90pts "Very pale lemon and lime tints with white flowers, grapefruit, and shortcrust pastry aromatics. A richer, more textural style of riesling that still sits with citrus and tropical fruit but has a density and savoury pastry tone through the core that sets it apart. Acidity is soft but does drive and the long finish is still mostly dry." - Stuart Knox, The Real review
90pts "Lime flesh and apple skin with slap in the face freshness of sea spray, a suggestion of rosewater, “Nice” biscuit, coriander and green leaves. Cuddly and generous fleshy feels tempered with a little grainy phenolics and puckering green apple acidity giving a fine drive. No need to overthink it. Ready to cut through tempura battered fish and chips or trays full of pot stickers." - Regan Drew, vinonotebook.com
95pts "Lovely bright perfume, freshly squeezed limes, a dash of rose, a salty, maritime lift. A sumptuous feel, textured & round. A touch of bergamot & a soft feathery touch. Forward, but will age nicely." - Justin Knock, Decanter
95pts "Expressive nose, delicacy on the palate with underlying power, an almost exotically floral finish. Soft with a steely core." - Julia Sewell, Decanter
95pts "Hints of tropics, touch of banana, fresh acidity, some citrus peel, zing & zang, gentle jasmine & some herbaceous characters." - Roger Jones, Decanter
91/100 "Super-fine, fresh citrus aromas with apple and lime, too. The palate has a soft, juicy feel with open-knit pear and apple, as well as lime. Drink now. Screw cap." – James Suckling
90pts “Flavour-full Riesling. Doesn’t shy away and be all coy like “come back in 20 years time and maaaaaaybe I’ll be ready.” That’s not to say it won’t last that long. Probably will. But chances are there won’t be any left to try as it will have all been drunk. Sliced apples, juiced limes, hints of richer green pear too. A suggestion of saline sea spray and a hint of rosewater. Some grip and width through the front of the palate but the right amount of tight, tense intense citrus to close. Bring all the dumplings.” - Regan Drew, Vino Notebook
2020 91/100 "Bright, ripe-peach and lemon with hints of melon here, too. The palate has a very crisp, vibrant and elegant feel with intense, attractive peach flavour." – James Suckling
90/100 "Fragrant aromas of bath salts, talc, lime leaf and slate. Crunchy, pithy and lemony, and there's a lovely soft acidity that makes for a really approachable, smart glass of riesling" - Aaron Brasher, The Real Review
2018 92/100 "Light, bright yellow colour, with a green kaffir lime and crushed herb aromas, the palate delicate and refined, with tension and length and a trace of phenolic grip that adds to its texture and persistence. A tickle of sweetness, too. Slaty, fine and long." - Huon Hooke, The real Review
2017 91/100 "From 18-40yo vines at the Noack Vineyard at Springton. Crisp and fresh, as behoves the vintage. Light, floral and delicate lime. Certain to develop very well.” -Halliday Wine Companion.
2016 91/100 "This turns up the citrus dial with lemon-lime blossom/juice/drops and zest with some mint too. It's refreshing with slatey, racy acidity and a slight bitter finish." - Jane Faulkner, Halliday
2015 92/100 "Exactly as it should be. Floral and limey with just enough intensity and just enough length. Smells/tastes good, without resorting to trickery." – Campbell Mattinson, Halliday
