Of the vintages pulled from the cellar and tasted on the 4th June 2026, the 2019 was the wine of the day for our winemakers.

Dan describes it as: “WOW!...still so surprisingly fresh after 7 years, going from strength to strength in the bottle”. Both Huon and Dan noted that it is strikingly similar to the Decanter winning 2021 in many ways, perhaps even more complex and alluring right now if that’s possible! Still highly perfumed with florals, mint and sage and loaded with rhubarb and blue, black fruits but now overlaid with secondary characters and complexity. The 2019 started life with a bang with our first Gold Medal+95pts at Royal Adelaide Wine Show and now drinks better than ever.

Other highlights: 2016 close to hitting it’s peak at 10 years of age, 2015 going strong with years to go, the inaugural 2014 vintage showing true aged character with hints of tobacco now mingling with lifted spearmint and rasberry conserve, perfect for enjoying this winter at the peak of it’s maturity.

At the tasting on 4th June 2026, this one was a tough battle and both Dan and Huon found it hard to choose a favourite of the three vintages...

the inaugural 2015 vintage was again a revelation, showing freshness and balance, seemingly aging in slow motion...

Huon was struck by the complexity of the 2016 and how time in bottle has taken this vintage next level, now amongst the best.

A super-lifted nose of choc-mint, cedar, eucalypt, and musk leads to a complex and vibrant palate packed with blueberry jam, satsuma plum, blackcurrant, chocolate, roasted chicory root and spice. Perfect drinking now with a medium-rare steak.

The 2019 was again a showstopper, only more time will tell how far this vintage can go and if it will eventually top them all!

12 years ago we began our search for a truly iconic Barossa Shiraz vineyard. The quest lead us to discover the depths of riches of the Fechner Family’s vineyard and our experiment became ELIJAH in vintage 2015. Hailing from the revered Fechner brothers’ Moculta vineyard in the Northern Eden Valley. Elijah is a powerful wine incorporating new French oak from France’s oldest family cooperage, Leroi.

Cabernet Shiraz... Australia's most iconic red blend. Superbarossa is our tribute to the original Barossa red, then known as Claret. The synergy of the two varieties becomes greater than the sum of its parts. SUPERBAROSSA 2014, 2018:

At the tasting on 4th June our panel found two wines at very different stages of maturity. Dan particularly enjoyed seeing the 2014 vintage (on release a Gold Medal winner at “The Great Australian Red”) maturing with added complexity, showing signature Cabernet malt, leather and cigar box notes now in addition to the dark and dense berry and mint tinged palate this wine is reknowned for.

Huon was surprised at how fresh the 2018 vintage was showing at the tasting, time in the decanter continued to reveal more depth of flavour and more over the next few hours hinting that this vintage still has a long, long way to go.

Both the 2014 and 2018 vintage are now vying for favourite museum vintage status, challenging our previous favourite 2016's position as museum cellar superstar!

Our Redux Museum Release program is a cellaring initiative where we hold back a limited volume of our favourite vintages, carefully cellared and released when at their peak.

There is nothing better than perfectly matured Barossa Cabernet Shiraz - Crack open a bottle and serve it with some super slow roasted lamb, some sticky barbecued ribs, or a humble piece of aged Gouda (complete with the lil' salt crystals and all)... oohhh yea!

Those of us who immediately thought of The Band and their terrific song, ‘Evangeline’ (who could forget the version from The Last Waltz?), are off the mark. Apparently, the name encompasses references to life, death, Jesus and resurrection (which seems like an enormous amount to place on the shoulders of a single wine). No matter, it is a most enjoyable effort, whatever the reason. Dark crimson hue, there is a pleasing degree of oak integration, with notes of dry herbs, mulberries, raspberries and aniseed on the nose. There is good focus, fine acidity and sleek tannins here, making for a most attractive red, but it probably needs a little more length if it wants to go to the next level. That said, lots to like. Add some musk stick, with a citrus leaf lift, lime skin and paw paw. It may be all blossom on the nose, but the palate underscores the serious intent of the wine. Whilst there’s pink fruit aplenty, it finishes long and dry with bittersweet citrus and hints of dried tropical fruits. Complexity is borne from skin contact and provides a great counterpoint to the olfactory good times. A slightly wax send off reinforces the varietal strengths. Düfte Punkt is an aromatic paradigm-shift. A seamless single-vineyard blend of spicy Gewürztraminer, precise Riesling and textural Kerner (Weißer Herold). Striking lychee and turkish delight aromas introduce a complex palate showing lychees, mandarins, minerality and a lingering powder-puff of florals.

The Fechner brothers' applauded vineyard in the Eden Valley is unique for both its spectacular aromatics and its unique varietal mix. This field blend is a cofermentation consisting of Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Kerner (aka Weißer Herold) (from the only commercial Australian plantings of this Riesling-Trollinger crossbreed).

Kerner... this evocative, textural treat is the brain child of August Herold. First planted in 1929 as a cross-breed of Riesling and Trollinger... fast forward 76 years to when Barossa bros Graeme & Michael Fechner had that elusive lightbulb moment - to plant Kerner cuttings in their northern Eden Valley vineyard whilst on a research trip in Germany. Their pioneering efforts, sparked our intrigue... we first dabbled with Kerner incorporating it into our aromatic field blend DÜFTE PUNKT, co-fermenting it with Riesling and Gewürztraminer from the same vineyard. After years of experimenting, we decided it was time to truly hero this germanic wunderkind, and push Kerner into the limelight with the release of the first KONTRAPUNKT in 2016... now Australia’s (and the Southern Hemisphere's) only Kerner.“Every now and then you encounter a wine that blows your mind. Hand picked to capture both natural acidity/freshness and intensity of flavour, the riesling was then gently whole-bunch pressed and fermented on solids and bottled without fining with only a minimal addition of sulphur dioxide. Aromas of fresh first rainfall on slaty soil with jasmine white florals lead to a natural acidity tensioned palate, it’s dolomite/quartz mineral core adorned with a bounty of nutmeg, cardamon and cinnamon spiced apple, peach and feijoa fruits.

In 2021 the Starick's family’s organic vineyard in Springton (Eden Valley’s Riesling heartland) experienced pristine ripening conditions for riesling which resulted in incredible natural acidity, balance and overt aromatic impact.

“Zeitpunkt” is German for moment in time {literally - time point}. This wine is a romantic vinous snapshot of a moment in history: 11th March 2017... that's when we decided the time was right to capture these pristine Riesling grapes, organically grown in Southern Eden Valley soils. Our mission for Zeitpunkt* has always been the same: get out of the way and let the vines do the talking.
