2024
95pts "In line with many as a 2024 vintage character, another delicate styling showcasing pretty aromas and a faint note of lavender and rose petal. Subtle acidity feels as well, celebrating the purity and fine beauty of the variety. A lovely wine. Drink now - 2034" The Vintage Journal
2023
93pts "Pretty aromas of citrus blossom, white flowers, lemon pith and wet slate. Quite juicy, fresh and zesty on the palate. There's a lusciousness of lemon and lime, along with tangy, pithy acidity. There's lovely texture, mouth-feel and presence, and the length is impressive. A smart (almost) off-dry style of riesling." - Aaron Brasher, The Real Review
92pts "Very pale hue. Talc and baby powder with sweet white blossom, rosewater, apple skin, flint, mandarin and stone fruit skin. Neatly etched, textural frame with delicacy balanced by enough generosity of sweet flesh to allow consumption now or later." - Regan Drew, vinonotebook.com
2021 94pts “A tart, tense web of crackling acidity, there’s juiciness and a sense of very high drinkability. Sourdough, ginger and preserved lemon scents. Quite rich and forward in perfume but wholly appealing. Green apple and ripe citrus fruit characters with nutty savouriness in tow. Seriously appealing, savoury style.” - Mike Bennie, Gourmet Traveller Wine
92pts “Interesting nose, lime blossom with a touch of tobacco leaf development. Honeyed and textured with gentle freshness. Elegant and fine” - Roger Jones, Decanter
93pts "Flint, spice and baby powder talc underscored by apple flesh, lime skin, mandarin pith and a suggestion of white stone fruit. Textural dry grip defines this and doesn’t denigrate from the lightness and exactness of the finish. Open and approachable." - Regan Drew, Vino Notebook
2020 93pts "Made for texture and complexity, this has a thread of wet slate to the abundant, fine and fresh lemon-peel and peach aromas. The palate is very smooth, soft and almost fleshy with an edge of fresh, lemon-lime acidity cutting a crisp, pure finish." - James Suckling Reviews

93pts + SILVER - 2022 Decanter Wine Awards
93/100 "Pale yellow colour, with a lifted fragrance of fresh flowers and whispers of citrus blossoms. The wine is just off-dry, the sweetness helping make it more approachable at this tender age. It's very young and bright, will live long and reward cellaring, and it is delicious now. The balance is superb." - Huon Hooke, The Real Review
Top Picks “Attractive aromas of beeswax, toast, lime zest and ginger. Perhaps some skin contact at work here with a pithy viscosity and a richness to the palate. The racy acidity and talc notes reign in the fruit to give a long, persistent and drying finish.” - Justin Purser, Young Gun of Wine
2018 93/100 "Very light, bright yellow hue. The aroma is fresh and bright also, with lovely crisp lemon-blossom notes, the palate is juicy and refined, off-dry, delicate and yet also intense with quite good persistence, the finish clean and appetising. It's not overly dry, but harmonious and approachable. A very smart riesling." - Huon Hooke, The Real Review

Gold Medal + 95pts - 2023 Decanter World Wine Awards Silver Medal + 94pts - 2020 International Wine Challenge (London)
93pts "Exquisite riesling. Floral fluid, gently textural, bursting with life, pure. Slatey, gunmetal-like character meets lemon sorbet and an assortment of florals. It's as delicious as it is fine." - Campbell Mattison, The Wine Front
93pts "Light to mid yellow colour, very fresh looking for its years, the bouquet lightly browned, buttered toast and a whiff of dried flowers and dried lemon peels. Waxy aromas too. The palate is very dry and firmed up by judicious phenolics, the finish long and slightly grippy but supple and not astringent. Very smart mature riesling." - Huon Hooke, The Real Review
2016 Top 100 SA Wines - Tony Love
92pts "Soft. Some spritz. Minerally, smoky, almost yeasty. A different expression of Eden Valley riesling in a way and yet there’s a clear, pure, citrussy line, a touch of talc and a general impression of reserve. It’s hard not to become enamoured. Sweetness here is modest at most. Basically it just drinks really well" - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
2015 95pts+GOLD (Elite) - 2022 Canberra International Riesling Challenge
Gold Medal - Barossa Valley Wine Show
93/100 "Three Eden Valley vineyards, handpicked, half of the crop spending time on skins. 6g/l residual sugar. Presents as delicate but lengthy with lime rind/juice and slate flavours floating convincingly through the palate. Gently textural. More soft than sweet. Beautiful style of wine." - Campbell Mattinson, Halliday

One Vineyard. Three Germanic Luminaries... Düfte Punkt is an aromatic paradigm-shift. A seamless single vineyard field blend of spicy Gewürztraminer, precise Riesling and textural Kerner (Weißer Herold). Striking tropical and turkish delight aromas introduce a complex palate showing lychees, mandarins, minerality and a lingering powder-puff of florals. This wines screams food and good times... and now the incredible 2024 release is here!
Drink it anytime with a soft (gooey even?! :) ) cheese platter or enjoy with any fiery spice laden dish from your local Thai spice den.
Katie Spain (The Age/SMH) says... "Pro tip - The Chaffey Bros. Dufte Punkt (a single-vineyard field blend of gewurztraminer, riesling and kerner) holds its own with fresh, spicy Asian dishes. Bang it on the lazy Susan and let the good times roll."
"If you like the idea of drinking a hand-grenade stuffed full of potpourri, you're gonna love Düfte Punkt!" - Theo Engela 2024

2023 ~ Celebrating a decade of Düfte 2014-2023!
93pts "A funky field blend of co-fermented riesling, gewürztraminer and kerner from the Fechner vineyard. Light straw in the glass with heady aromas of citrus, peach skin and poached pear along with hints of Turkish delight, mineral salts, pressed wildflowers, clotted cream and almond paste. Über-slinky and textural on the palate with citrus and yellow plum fruits expanding then contracting with a tight flex of nervy acidity propelling long, perfumed and savoury on the exit." - Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion“
2022
**WINNER!! - VINTAGE CELLARS "BEST OF WINE 2023" (White)**
94pts "I like the name and I like the wine. A real Germanic fruit salad-esque blend here of riesling, gewürztraminer & kerner, from the cool climes of the Eden Valley. Straw in the glass with heady aromas of lime & citrus, Turkish delight, crushed stone, white flowers, rose petals & almond paste. Textural, stony, sapid & pure, it cuts a lovely line on the palate, sashaying with a confident & delicious gait. Finishes dry and crisp, like sucking on a river pebble...if you’re into that. Regardless, it’s lovely." Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion
91pts "Hyper floral is the signature for this label. A mélange of rosewater, minerally pink salt, pink grapefruit, honeycomb, native blossom, lime zest, pear and lychee. The just viscous and creamy weight off-set by salty spice and spiky acidity. Bittersweet citrus lingers. Such a unique blend that absolutely comes into its own with spiced SE-Asian foods." - Regan Drew, vinonotebook.com
2021
"Light straw-yellow hue with a bath-powder gewürz note uppermost, and the wine is slightly off-dry, the sweetness coupled with tannins to leave a bitter orange-peel aftertaste. This is different!" - Huon Hooke, The Real Review
2020 92/100 "Big hit of lime juice and fruit, pink rock salt, poached pear, grapefruit, mango chutney, rosewater and Turkish Delight “dust.” With weight and viscosity and dry spice from the Gewurz (and a touch of the Kerner) and thrust from the Riesling. Fleshier than one expects and a far drier experience than the nose suggests, there’s just a little phenolic textural chew that provides versatility. Continues the signature label saline, quinine-esque and grapefruit bittersweet finish. Unique and worthy." - Regan Drew, Vino Notebook
2019 91/100 "Like a stroll through a CWA shop. Rosewater and pink musk sticks, lychee fruit with citrus of dilute lime cordial, brown pear, rock salt and a “face spray” refreshment. A textural, yet refined palate that offers above expectation fleshy breadth. Bittersweet lime pith, brown pomme all with a saline drying, long finish. Familiar, yet alien and a pleasure to enjoy." - Regan Drew, Vino Notebook
2017 17.75/20 "Strap in for the ride. Lime flesh dominates the nose with key supporting elements from the lychees and spring-fed-watering-hole-clean mineral water freshness. Fennel continues to tickle and suggest, while crushed chalk dust falls. If the 2016 riesling corset managed to keep the gewürz reined in, this edition relaxes the laces a little and allows a glimpse of flesh with gusto. Lychees, limes, spice, musk…no one hates these things. Flavour finishes like crunching a “thirst” life saver…slightly chalky and zingy. Good time wine." - Regan Drew, Vino Notebook
92 Points "The sizzle of apple, the rush of lychee, the swoon of musk. This is exotic and lively, the combination charming. It feels fine. It feels pure. There's a textural element too. Any day of the week. It's good." - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
2016 17.5/20 "Firstly, I really dig the packaging. Modern without being obtuse and eye grabbing without being kitsch. And some latitude/longitude for GPS geeks. Wonderfully aromatic…think all the just washed soft bits: there’s rosewater and bath talc and lychee along with clean lines of minerally lime and white rocks. It tickles the nose a little with fennel and bitter quinine/tonic too. The juxtaposition on the palate is almost hypnotic as the gewürz Rubenesque fleshiness gets corseted in by riesling, all whalebone-tight. Fruit and texture in very good balance. Screams food wine and great company." - Regan Drew, Vino Notebook
Adelaide Review's HOT100 Wine for the third consecutive year! "Beautiful cold tea and flowers. Delicate palate and length with a touch of green strawberry and herb."
92 pts "The Chaffey Bros wines always feel so harmonious. They glide through the mouth. This boasts a crunch of apple and a crackle of slate, but it slips and slides beautifully through your mouth. There’s a whisper of red apple-like sweetness/perfume and a gunsmoke-like note, along with a kaffir lime character. It’s an explosion of aroma, sure, but it’s also elegance personified"- Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
2015 Adelaide Review's Hot 100 Wine for the second consecutive year!
93/100 "41/38/21% co-fermented blend of riesling, gewurztraminer and wei?er herold. It lives up to its billing as an aromatic blend. Rosewater, lychee, Granny Smith apple and citrus notes rush the nose and mouth. Lots of texture this year, and an associated impression of richness. Crisp/fresh context. No question of its quality." - Campbell Mattinson, Halliday
2014 Adelaide Review's Hot 100 Wine "Grapefruit, wet stone and juniper. Lifted aromatics provide real interest. Nice core of fruit and a mouthwatering finish."

Kerner... this evocative, textural treat is the brain child of August Herold. First planted in 1929 as a cross-breed of Riesling and Trollinger... fast forward 76 years to when Barossa bros Graeme & Michael Fechner had that elusive lightbulb moment - to plant Kerner cuttings in their northern Eden Valley vineyard whilst on a research trip in Germany. Their pioneering efforts, sparked our intrigue... we first dabbled with Kerner incorporating it into our aromatic field blend DÜFTE PUNKT, co-fermenting it with Riesling and Gewürztraminer from the same vineyard. After years of experimenting, we decided it was time to truly hero this germanic wunderkind, and push Kerner into the limelight with the release of the first KONTRAPUNKT in 2016... now Australia’s (and the Southern Hemisphere's) only Kerner. “Every now and then you encounter a wine that blows your mind. Kerner is one of them. Haven't heard of it? You're not alone." - Katie Spain, SMH & The Age
So what's all the excitement about? It's like Riesling on steroids. Fuller in body and more luscious in texture. It's wonderfully aromatic, with a deliciously creamypalate & some bright acidity that keeps it fresh, lively and oh-so drinkable. This wine is for the foodie, the sommelier who has seen it all, andthose who just want to drink different... it'swhite wine for the red wine drinker.
Winemakers: Daniel Chaffey Hartwig, Theo Engela + Huon Fechner Varietal: Kerner Region: Eden Valley Alc/Vol: 13% pH: 3.2 Acidity: 4.7 Bottle size: 750 mL
“… an exceptional expression of this rare variety, as the 2020, 2019 & 2017 vintages demonstrated. Vibrant aromatics with a hint of nuttiness. Great linear flavours of red apples and citrus, steely when young and softening off and rounding out over time to become a truly sensational, silky smooth, creamy wine.” - Dan Traucki, WBM
2024 ~ Too new for reviews!
2022 93pts "Single-vineyard Eden Valley kerner (a mashup of riesling and trollinger). Pale straw with lemon, lime and green apple fruit tones. Hints of marzipan, almond blossom, a splash of nashi pear and a handful of crushed quartz ... some light whey and a suggestion of cut fennel further back. Lean, crystalline and lemony with plenty of verve, briny acidity and inherent drinkability. Get on the kerner train!" - Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion
2021 91pts "A delicious example of this little-known grape variety. Bold and zesty with ice bon-bon and melon aromas. Really swings its way over the palate and leaves you wanting more of this unique kind of white wine. Fun." - James Suckling
2020 91pts "This has quite a restrained apple and lemon nose. Apple peel, too. The palate is fresh, lively and has some attractive, fresh green apple and pear to close. Drink now. Screw cap." - James Suckling Reviews
90pts + Silver - Australian Alternative Varieties Wine Show
90/100 "Pale lemon and lime tints in the glass. Ripe pears, white flowers and broken slate aromas. Light to medium on the palate, it sits with a good weight of orchard fruit and aromatic sweet spices. There's a hint of sugar amongst it, but the taut acid line and brush of phenolics balance that to dry the finish pleasingly."- Stuart Knox, The Real Review
2019 Stewards' Choice Trophy - Australian Alternative Variety Wine Show
93/100 "Fresh and lively: initial pear split by spice, lychee, creamed honey, grilled kaffir lime skin, stony quartz with a touch rosewater on the pull-away. Offering some flesh to the front palate with richer than expected elements before the acidity refreshes with a lime granita like finish and a slightly tacky, drying phenolic grip. A moreish wine of difference." - Regan Drew, Vino Notebook
91 pts "A fresh, off-dry style that has pear, apple and pastry notes on the nose and palate. Some crunchy, bright acidity." - James Suckling Reviews
2018 Adelaide Review's HOT 100 Wine "Delicate, lean and fresh. Slightly Chalky on the palate and oh, so drinkable from start to finish."
92 pts "From the Fechner vineyard in the Eden Valley. Varietal kerner. There’s volume to this, there’s length, there’s a textural softness. All ticks. Grapefruit, citrus rind, apple and pure white pepper. Very good." Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
2017 Gold Medal "’Very elegant’ was Juan Manuel Marcos Perez of The Gilbert Scott’s first impression on encountering this impressive Gold-worthy wine, further describing ‘stone fruit like peaches, pineapple and mango, with a slight influence of oak’, while Elisa Soggia of Kai Mayfair noted ‘a creamy, smoky, vanilla aroma with elderflower and tropical fruit’. Team leader Laurent Richet MS was reminded of ‘key lime pie’, and found it ‘pure, bright and intense’, saying it would be ideal alongside ‘sweet and sour pork with pak choi and steamed vegetables’." - Sommelier Wine Awards UK
2016 91/100 "The white grape kerner is the love child of riesling and the red, trollinger (aka schiava) bred by August Herold in ?29, Germany. This is the first 100% kerner made by Chaffey Bros and it's a savoury package of grilled nuts, cinnamon, lemon rind with neat phenolics on a slightly broad palate." - Jane Faulkner, Halliday

92pts "Single-vineyard Eden Valley gewürztraminer from the Fechner Bros property in Moculta; 24 hours' skin contact. Light straw with heady aromas of rosewater, bath salts, musk, lychee, crunchy red apple, frangipani, marzipan, crushed quartz and souk-like spices. Damn, it smells inviting. The palate shows great clarity and detail and an edge of citrus, musk lollies and candied ginger with crystalline acidity and a finish that lingers in a way that is gloriously and relentlessly floral and endearing. Super stuff." - Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion
92pts "Sucked in to the floral softness and aromatics of the variety’s signature rosewater and musk. Dry talc, pink salt, pink grapefruit and baking spices swirl and evolve. Latent depth and richness bounce and race with spices and floral aromatics. Finishing tight and very dry." - Regan Drew, Vino Notebook
91pts "Pale and bright lemon-yellow in the glass. Fragrant and lifted with rose petal, musk and lychee notes on the nose and palate. As it flows with a silken glide, a hint of candied ginger offers a contrasting element. Has a richness to its texture which straddles the sweet/dry boundary with aplomb." - Stuart Knox, The Real Review
2019 92pts “Not trying to be anything but the vivacious variety that comes with the territory. Scents of rose water, peach, sweet citrus and citrus blossoms. Lovely. The palate is fleshy and juicy at once, finishes slightly nutty and the wine carries heaps of flavour very well. A good vibe here.” - Mike Bennie, WBM
92/100 "I’m a sucker for the aromatics on Gewürztraminer : the rich softness of rosewater and musk here is balanced by talc, crushed pink salt with pink grapefruit and nettle prickle. The time on skins gives depth to the palate while the natural acidity keeps it zesty and bright. All that sweetness on the nose is somewhat of a facade as this finishes chalky and dry." - Regan Drew, Vino Notebook
91pts "Varietal gewürztraminer from the Eden Valley. Bluhen Punkt translates to Blossom Point. Texture plus. All about mouthfeel. Orange oil and blossom, some lime, some lychee. Rosewater and a good deal of it. Much pleasure to be had here." - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
2017 18.25/20 "Oh so pretty! Lush rosewater and Turkish Delight….like biting deep into the dusted little pink cubes that never seem to go stale. Add some musk stick, with a citrus leaf lift, lime skin and paw paw. It may be all blossom on the nose, but the palate underscores the serious intent of the wine. Whilst there’s pink fruit aplenty, it finishes long and dry with bittersweet citrus and hints of dried tropical fruits. Complexity is borne from skin contact and provides a great counterpoint to the olfactory good times. A slightly wax send off reinforces the varietal strengths. Delicious." - Regan Drew, Vino Notebook
91pts "Varietal gewürztraminer from the Eden Valley. Bluhen Punkt translates to Blossom Point. Nice. This is the first release of this wine. It saw 24 hours skin contact. It’s both racy and floral, its lychee and rosewater aromas/flavours zipped along in fast, mouthwatering fashion, the finish then textural-bordering-on-grippy. Pleasant plus. Most enjoyable. Fresh, characterful and elegant" - Campbell Mattinson, Wine Front
90pts "Has above average varietal expression on the bouquet and palate, with exotic spice, berry, rosewater and confection notes." - Halliday Wine Companion
”The 2017 vintage is truly magnificent; subtle, slick and svelte, and so enjoyable on it’s own or with food.” - Dan Traucki, WBM

2021 WINNER BEST IN SHOW '24 Decanter World Wine Awards + 97 pts "Prodigiously aromatic, black cherry and plum, then plunging blackberry and blackcurrant dominate the palate with oak providing extra upholstery. A haunting citrus-and-lavender perfume helps to structure the wine alongside ample, gentle tannins and curranty acidity. Stylish, with emphatic, show-stopping character." - Decanter Magazine 5th Feb 2025
94pts + Featured in Halliday's 2024 Cellaring Selections "Single-vineyard Eden Valley Syrah sourced from the Noack family property in Springton at 410m elevation. Plummy and pure with layers of spice, sage, liquorice, blueberry pie, violets, pepper, vanillin oak and merest whiff of mint. There is a graceful air to the fruit passage across the palate, tannins, fine but tensing on the mid-palate with a purple floral flourish on the exit." - Dave Brookes, Halliday
2020 94pts + SILVER - Abundant ripe plums and summer berry fruits, cut through with fine spice, blueberries with a whiff of vanilla and subtle, sexy French oak. There's a lovely fruit flow, some nice cool-climate crunch and a cascade of fine tannin for support. A lot to like here." - Dave Brooks, Halliday Wine Companion
SILVER - 2022 Decanter World Wine Awards
93pts "Lifted, vibrant, youthful, ripe, so pure and bright. Ripe berry fruit flavours with a touch of spice. This wine has layers of complexity with savoury nuances. Will improve with time." - Decanter Wine Magazine
93pts "Serious and cool EV Shiraz. Soaking plums, darker cassis, pencilly and vanilla oak influence (in a good way), cracked peppercorns and just a little leafy kitchen herb. Mid to full bodied with lovely flow and glide to the palate. Peering focus, narrowed eye slits drawing on purple and red fruits, nuanced with cool pepper and neatly etched tannins. Calm and serene" - Regan Drew, Vino Notebook
91pts "This has aromas of dried violets, blackcurrants, cracked pepper and sage. Fresh and bright with savory and peppery layers. Medium-bodied. All nicely wrapped up in firm, fine tannins." - James Suckling
2019 GOLD MEDAL + 95pts "A modern style of shiraz with ripe but not overripe fruit with high quality oak given just enough opportunity to make its point without dominating the argument. The fruit here is dense blues and blacks, with suggestions of vanilla and cedar. It is finished with beautifully fine, ripe tannins." - Royal Adelaide Wine Show
SILVER - 2022 Sommeliers Choice Awards
93pts "It’s always good, always reliable. This 2019 release is as good as any previous, maybe even better. It’s just so juicy. Just so perfumed. Just so enjoyable. Blueberry, boysenberry, plum and clove notes meet mint, sweet spice and woodsmoke. There’s a clear jellied/jubey aspect but there’s also a good reach of tannin, with the length to match. It’s both warm and fresh-faced at once; it’s in excellent order." - Campbell Mattison, The Wine Front
91/100 "Aromas of blue fruits, red cherry, spice and a cool menthol lift. Flavours are mid to full-bodied, the fleshy, generous blueberry and dark cherry fruit flavours are round and layered, with plenty of tannin and acid-derived structure. A well-made, soft, juicy, round and very drinkable wine." - Aaron Brasher, The Real Review
92pts "A very dark, dense colour, the nose shows lots of spice and white pepper, some quite exotic fruit and floral notes but pure and ripe blackberry and blueberry dominates. The gentle toast of the oak comes through on nose and palate, in a wine where a smooth but savoury fruit stays pliable and fresh across the mid-palate. The finish has fresh acids, very tight tannins, the oak again adding some toast in the finish" - Tom Cannavan's Wine Pages
“A lovely dark fruit character with a herbal edge to it, like a peppery gunpowder note. Gravelly tannins, a touch of sweet pastry, vanilla, nice and long, with a warmth, but the alcohol doesn’t sit outside the frame of the wine.” - Mark Pygott MW
2018 92 pts "Spice, liquorice, black fruit, sage and mint. Medium-bodied, red and black fruit, fresh, light tannin, lively, good finish. Easy to like. Affable and regional." - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
2016 95/100 "Fresh plum, dry spice and dried banana-like aromas, fruit-driven and fresh, with some Rhône-ish notes. The palate has linearity and fleshy concentration, with ample soft tannins and refreshing acidity. A very appealing wine, the texture being a highlight. It drinks superbly already." - Gourmet Traveller Wine Magazine, Huon Hooke
93/100 "It might be Eden Valley but using syrah on the label might raise an eyebrow. What's not in question is its drinkability. A fruit basket of berries, a raft of spices, it's juicy and so vibrant. It has tannins and acidity to ensure it'll age but gee, it's too good to wait for, so pour away." - Jane Faulkner, Halliday Wine Companion
92 pts "The Eden Valley and shiraz/syrah. A match made in heaven. Aromatic, spicy, floral, almost peppery. It doesn’t jump out of its skin but it does stand up to say hello. Plums, toast, roasted peppercorns, nuts. It unfolds as it breathes. It’s mid weight in a good way. Complex but not challenging or in-your-face. Drinkable and accessible and yet inscribed with fine tannin. The pitch, just right." - Campbell Mattison, The Wine Front
92 pts "Rich, ripe blackberry with plenty of spice and well-knit, savory elements. A rich, blackberry palate with supple, even tannins. Very approachable now. Screw cap." - James Suckling Reviews
2015 95/100 "Deepish red/purple hue, with a lifted floral aroma, clean and fresh and aromatic. The palate is similar, not big or heavy but intense and spicy, red-fruited and elegant, and finishing long on the aftertaste, with abundant firm tannins. There's lovely fruit-sweetness in the middle and a certain raspberry jam Eden Valley signature. Excellent." - Huon Hooke
93/100 "The flavour profile is sweeter than the word 'syrah' might imply but the wine's quality is never in doubt. Flavours of port wine jelly, pure plum, sweet raspberry and assorted dry/twiggy spices fill out the palate well; nutty tannin then completes the picture perfectly. Throughout the wine feels fluid and supple, making it a pleasure to spend time with." - Campbell Mattinson, Halliday
92 pts "Char-grilled pepper steak, black fruits and boot polish, a whiff of dried herb. Medium bodied, meaty and savoury, with pastille and prune, grainy tannin, a slight angularity to the palate with an almost ‘metallic’ feel, though not in a bad way, I’d add, and a spicy red and black fruited finish. A wilder more bunchy style of Barossa Shiraz, but pretty nicely done." - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
2014 92/100 "Red berries, boysenberries, spice and violets. It has some blackberried or at least plummy depth but the wine's sheer drinkability is conjured with soft fingers of highly accessible flavour. It has the acid/tannin structure to age, and the balance, but it's hard to find a good reason not to tuck in right now."
- Campbell Mattinson, Halliday

92pts "I think we can safely say that the name here is spot on. Definitely not. In fairness, my grandmother, rest her soul, thought all alcohol was Satan's soda and would send us to the very hot place without so much as a single genuflection (sadly, she was not alone among my relatives in holding that view). So, definitely not my grandmother's Rosé. The blend is old vine Grenache and Mourvèdre, both ideally suited for use in quality Rosé. The Grenache was picked early to provide a vibrancy to the texture. The colour is a gentle and alluring pink. The nose is delightfully fragrant with spices, red fruits, strawberries, rose petals and a hint of honeycomb. A touch of lavender and even a hint of Turkish Delight. Clean and fresh with good energy and decent length, this will provide simple but delicious drinking for the next few years (although not for certain members of my family). Drink now-2026." The Vintage Journal

92 pts + Special Value Red Star!
Pale salmon in the glass with the lightest of copper washes and notes of blood orange, redcurrant and raspberry alongside hints of wildflowers, stone and dried citrus rinds, while Turkish delight is back in the distance. Savoury and lipsmacking in its delivery on the palate, with plenty of minerally drive and energy, there is a lot to like here. Dave Brookes - Halliday Wine Companion
93 pts "Not your usual rosé blend either: Grenache and Mourvèdre and a splash of aromatic whites: Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Kerner. Always great packaging from CBWC and this label with a temperature sensitive indicator letting you know when it's good to go. Very pale dusky pink hue. Fragrant and lifted: redcurrant, Turkish Delight, white stone fruit and cherry blossom underwritten with blood orange citrus, fresh plucked grass and a little pink salt. Tension and flavour with toothsome texture and fine length. Great precision in winemaking to have it bone dry and crisp, with plenty of lingering florals. Highly drinkable!" - Regan Drew, vinonotebook

GOLD + 95pts - Royal Adelaide Wine Show 2022 GOLD + 95pts- Melbourne Royal Wine Awards 2022
GOLD + 95pts- New World Wine Awards (New Zealand) 2023
93pts "Pale salmon in the glass with notes of redcurrant, raspberry, blood orange and red cherry wrapped in the embrace of some high-toned blossom flourishes along with hints of marzipan and crushed stone and maybe some Turkish delight further in the distance. Snappy and tight on the palate with a touch of tangerine peel and soft spice entering the mixing as the wine finishes crisp and vital thanks to a seam of shimmering acidity. Pretty hard to put this one down" - Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion
90pts "This is fresh and crunchy with nectarines, pink cherries and rose petals on the nose. Medium-bodied, clean and polished with a delicious stone fruit character and sleek, mineral finish." - James Suckling
2021
GOLD - Melbourne International Wine Competition 2021
#5 & Top Australian Rosé - Falstaff International Global Rosé Trophy
"A touch of candied grapefruit gives some lift, suggesting ripeness and a warm climate. The palate has a zesty nature that pulls the ripe fruit notions of watermelon and cherry into lovely focus. This is fuller-flavoured and comes with a distinct phenolic edge. The finish is dry and lasting." - Anne Krebiehl MW
91pts "It’s made with grenache and mourvèdre and it’s pretty much always good. It’s pale copper-orange in colour and it’s both spicy and textural to taste. It has a core of raspberry and earth-like flavour with top notes of orange jelly and violet. It’s both as refreshing and as delicious as you’d want and hope it to be." - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
91pts "A light salmon-pink colour. A nose of thyme, raspberry, and fresh pastries. Sweet red fruits on the palate-entry meld into a hint of herbs and supple spices. There’s a weight and density that sets this up as a food-friendly style. The acidity is soft yet guides it long" - Stuart Knox, The Real Review
91pts "Pale salmon/coral hue. Raspberry and musk sticks with a spearmint leaf like herbaceous note, just unwrapped Turkish delight, a little pink salt and papaya too. Inherently drinkable. The Chaffey Bros team have produced a wine that has all the things you want from a rosé: Texture and vibrancy; crispness and freshness without forsaking depth of flavour or showing a thin, wan palate. Fun!" - Regan Drew, Vino Notebook
2020 "Barossa Valley Rose Winery of the Year" - Melbourne International Wine Competition 2020
2019 92pts "Faint strawberry, cherry notes, sweet blood orange characters. Slick texture, good finish, glides and refreshes, everything very gentle and even. Rose 101, maybe a bit more advanced, but has that huge drinkability feel. Right on." - Mike Bennie
90/100 "Bright, light, fresh pink colour with purple tints, the bouquet fresh, clean, brightly aromatic and alluring. The wine is soft and fruity, balanced and shaped to suit a lot of people's palates. A tickle of sweetness is well managed. A lovely everyday rosé. It was obviously very early-picked, but there is no greenness." - Huon Hooke, The Real Review
2018 17.25/20 "Rose gold/copper hue. chalk and musk sticks with white peach, light strawberry and raspberry cordial juice. Rounded musky, Turkish Delight fruit profile which stays tight and focused throughout the palate. White stonefruit, hints of red apple along side the fine-herbey red berry fruit, all driven to a juicy finish." - Regan Drew, Vino Notebook
2017 92pts and Red Star for value "In perfect drinking shape. Dry, racy with acidity and flavoursome at once. Raspberry and rosehip with cuts of apple and anise. Gets you in a mind for food." - Campbell Mattinson, Halliday Wine Companion
91pts "Very clever, and interesting. Has a slight sweatiness over musk, redcurrant and raspberry, a scattering of dried herb in the background. Light bodied, crisp and fresh, pretty red fruit flavour, pleasing mouth-perfume, a dusting of talc-like texture, an almost limey finish. Nicely done. Good drink." - Gary Walsh, The Wine Front
2016 92/100 "A pale pink-salmon colour that excites as much as the flavours of musk, rose hip, raspberries and cherries with lemon sorbet-like acidity and a lick of sweetness to finish." - Jane Faulkner, Halliday
2015 91/100 "Grenache and mourvedre. Slight spritz. Funk, earth, spice and leather, with cranberry/raspberry fruit crashing over the top. Loads up but then finishes dry. It works." - Campbell Mattison, Halliday
2014 90/100 "69% old vine grenache, 29% old vine mourvedre and 2% gewurztraminer, riesling and weisser herold. Fragrant and fruity, the power of suggestion of the 2% giving some citrus, offset by perceptible residual sugar (7.3g/l), in turn balanced by low pH; the other fruit flavours are in the red spectrum, but not particularly intense." - Halliday

2022 (New Release!) 91pts "Medium garnet colour with a ruby clear rim. Cool purple plum fruit, blue gravel, anise to amaro herb and spice with a signature potpourri lilt. Well put together and bright. Mid weight (beyond rosé) and with more than a hint of cheek. Just a flirt of chewy tannin to give a base to a herby, purple and red berries. Covers all bases: Enough acidity to keep it zingy when chilled and enough fruit when that coolness warms up. Fun stuff indeed." Regan Drew, vinonotebook.com
91pts "A grenache mourvèdre concoction for chilling is obviously a very good thing. It's packed with red cherry and juicy plum fruits with a touch of blood orange, some bunchy spice and amaro and another whole bunch of "pourmeanotherglassness". Great fun drinking. We need more of these styles." - Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion
91pts "
It’s a smashable red that tastes just smashing. It’s made with Barossa grenache and mourvedre and it’s kind of mid-coloured and mid-flavoured, if that makes sense; it’s not rose-like but it’s not full-bodied either, its cherry-plum-earth-anise characters running friskily through the palate, offering just-enough texture and decent-enough depth to keep everyone happy. Great style of wine, and well executed." - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
91pts " A bright and juicy red with aromas of peppercorns, raspberries, cherries, cinnamon and oranges. Soft and supple, with a medium body and a rounded, fruity and delicious finish. Cool fermented whole bunch grenache and mourvedre." - James Suckling
90/100 "Lovely deep, garnet hue. Signature floral potpourri and rose petal, cola essence, red berries and earthy blue gravel. Plush and slurpable up front with easy structure, just enough grip, a crunchy finish and a good tang of peppery stalky spice. The fruit quality is evident without sacrificing the fun." -Regan Drew, vinonotebook.com
2020 90/100 "Pale ruby to purple colour in the glass. Redcurrants and rose petals on the nose. Bright, juicy and crunchy on the palate. Built more around acidity than tannins for structure. A unique and quite delicious version of grenache. Would be best served with a little chill." - Stuart Knox, The Real Review
Deep cerise to toffee apple red in hue. Cool, herbed nose with red currant, blue plum, hints of cola, gravel and floral potpourri. Crunchy and vibrant palate with just a hint of grip but plenty of cut. A cheeky and delightful wine" - Regan Drew, vinonotebook.com

92pts “Pale lemon colour. Fragrant aromas of gardenia, lime zest and lemon curd lift from the glass. Bright green apple, musky florals and chalk characters fill the palate as it carries with lift of light and bright acidity... a lot going on throughout and it manages to show a seamless flow even at such a young age.” - Stuart Knox, Real Review

SILVER - Melbourne International Wine Competition
93pts "Sourced from an old-vine (35+ years) riesling vineyard in Springton in the Eden Valley. Pale straw in the glass with characters of freshly squeezed lime juice with hints of Christmas lily, crushed stone, lemon zest and lighter notes of freshly cut fennel and marzipan. Voluminous yet precise with a clean, swift cadence over the palate and a wonderful air of purity and zest. Jeez, it's lovely drinking." - Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion
90pts "Lime flesh and apple skin with slap in the face freshness of sea spray, a suggestion of rosewater, “Nice” biscuit, coriander and green leaves. Cuddly and generous fleshy feels tempered with a little grainy phenolics and puckering green apple acidity giving a fine drive. No need to overthink it. Ready to cut through tempura battered fish and chips or trays full of pot stickers." - Regan Drew, vinonotebook.com

95pts "Expressive nose, delicacy on the palate with underlying power, an almost exotically floral finish. Soft with a steely core." - Julia Sewell, Decanter
95pts "Hints of tropics, touch of banana, fresh acidity, some citrus peel, zing & zang, gentle jasmine & some herbaceous characters." - Roger Jones, Decanter

92 pts " LUX VENIT roughly translates to "the light has come". Serious Rosé from old-vine Barossa Valley Grenache and Mourvèdre. Wild fermentation and maturation in French oak barrels for 3 months. Pale salmon in colour. Nose full of strawberries and cream, roasted nuts, cherry blossom and compote, stone fruit slices and cinnamon. Fleshy and full: generous rolls of flesh with fine focus and length. Bittersweet citrus and stone fruit edged with spice. Finishes bone dry with a good texture." - Regan Drew, vinonotebook.com
91pts "Sandalwood, red apple and cranberry aromas lure you in. The palate is plush, offering breadth and intense flavours of red berries. It offers dimension and intensity, and has an extra layer compared to other rosés. It's a delicious wine with layers of complexity." Gabrielle Pay, The Real Review
2022
91 pts "Old-vine grenache and mourvèdre from a vineyard in the Lyndoch foothills, down in the southern Barossa. Light salmon pink with red apple, red cherry, redcurrant and watermelon notes with hints of marzipan, raspberry, sage, berry cream, soft spice and redcurrant jelly. It's got a slinky gait across the palate, acidity keeping things in check and providing pulse, and it finishes dry, red-fruited and textural." - Dave Brookes, The Wine Companion
2021
92pts "Pale onion-skin-pink hue. Raspberry, sage and creamy aromatics. Soft and supple red berry fruit; there's a nice creamy flow through the middle to a reasonably lengthy finished" - Stuart Knox, The Real Review
91pts "Just a hint of redcurrant and a spicy note appear on the shy nose. The palate adds a riper, rounder tone to this, reminiscent of bottled strawberry that is both mellow and gently aromatic. There is a yeasty texture, too, that lends gentleness to the dry finish." - Falstaff International Global Rosé Trophy
90pts"Lush, textural style. Dry and spicy. A little alcohol heat pokes through; just a little. Pale, pale copper in colour. Orange jelly and raspberry, earth and spice. Almost a saline-like note here, as a positive. Serious style. Needs food. Something tapas-y." - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
2020
93 pts "Light to medium intense salmon-pink colour. Red cherries, cinnamon and anise spices lift from the glass. Quite deep and powerful with berry fruits and spices layered amongst notes of wood shavings and prosciutto. Good length and flow, acid keeps it controlled but this is definitely on the full side of the rosé spectrum. A more autumnal style." - Stuart Knox, The Real Review
93/100 "Medium salmon hue. Lifted red fruits: strawberry and raspberry with a dash of peach cream and savoury spice. Profound and serious palate, rich with the aforementioned red fruits, yet retaining lightness and energy through the long dry finish." - Regan Drew, Vino Notebook
Silver Medal & "Barossa Valley Rose Winery of the Year" - Melbourne International Wine Competition 2020
93/100 "Light to medium intense salmon-pink colour. Red cherries, cinnamon and anise spices lift from the glass. Quite deep and powerful with berry fruits and spices layered among notes of wood shavings and prosciutto." - Stuart Knox, The Real Review
2019 93/100 "Daniel and Theo apparently sang to it while it matured in barrel. Coral pink. This is an energetic wine, with a cool dusky musk base, replete with raspberry crystals and light peach stone fruit inferences. Wonderfully textural and refreshing, this is a cut above." - Regan Drew, Vino Notebook
93/100 "Strawberries and their leaves on the aromatics. Brightness and intensity on the palate entry, good acid and a touch of phenolic crunch keeps the flow to the back, and there's a creaminess to finish" - Stuart Knox, The Real Review

92pts Old-vine grenache off Kevin Schild's vineyard in Vine Vale; 30% whole bunches. A light ruby colour and fragrant aromas of raspberry, red plum and cranberry fruits dabbed with exotic ginger spice, light amaro tones, dried citrus rind and pressed flowers. Airy and spacious with a meaty, savoury flow across the tongue, light chalky tannins tugging at the roof of the mouth and a lively, lacy line of acidity - Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion
90pts "Notes of rosemary mix with rose and raspberry on the pretty nose. The palate offers depth yet its texture is airy and the tannins glide across. It's a delicious young grenache that favours elegance over brawn." Gabrielle Boy, The Real Review
2022
92pts "It took grenache roughly 150 years to become an overnight success in Australia but the glory days of Aussie grenache are upon us. This release is fresh, delicate, laced with dry spice and tannin, juicy with fruit, and high in drinkability. It feels authentic because it is. Raspberry characters with a glow to them. Earth notes inlaid. Everything on firm/sure tippy toes, ballerina-like, elevated and exact. There’s texture here too, warm texture, silk fresh from the ironing board, treated right. A lovely drink, it is." Campbell Mattinson, Wine Front
2019 92pts "Bright raspberries and some florals here with a fresh, intense impression on the nose, leading to a ripe, supple palate that has plenty of ripe, smooth, raspberry and red-plum flavor. Fresh, flavorful and fun style." - James Suckling Reviews
NEWS JUST IN: Trophy for BEST SEMILLON IN SHOW!!! 2024 Barossa Wine Show
SALVIS GRATIA* (meaning 'Saving Grace') is a small-batch labour-of-love, carefully hand harvested from some of the last remnants of the Madeira Semillon clone in the Barossa, planted by the Fechner brothers in 1983. SALVIS GRATIA* is an exciting addition to our 'Barossa Nouveau' series joining our established Old Vine Grenache stars Pax Aeterna and Lux Venit* Rosé. This series is all about championing these remnant Old Vine varietals that have always been special, but have sometimes fallen off the radar as new varietal fads come and go. Like PAX and LUX, SALVIS is made in a minimal intervention style - hand harvested, gently whole bunch pressed, 25% completed ferment and matured in new sirugue french oak puncheon. SALVIS GRATIA* is a sublime, zesty, elegantly opulent expression of Barossa Semillon... it's an absolute ripper!

Ranked #7 of 55 The Real Review Top Rank "Ultra-pale lemon and lime hues shine brightly through the glass. Waxed lemon and short crust pastry aromas. Light to medium in weight with beeswax, lemon zest and a touch of sherbet showing as it floats across the tongue. Good length and drive with bright yet supple acidity carrying it long to a crisp, dry finish with an attractive phenolic crunch." - Stuart Knox
93pts "Pale colour. Lifted exotic aromas; lemon curd, papaya, nectarine, tonic water, honey and subtle flinty overlay. Round and expressive with lemon curd, nectarine and tropical fruit notes. Wonderful mid-palate viscosity, creamy/lacy textures and an appealing honeyed acid line. Drink now and over the next couple of years." - Andrew Caillard MW, The Vintage Journal
93pts Silver "Light straw tones of Meyer lemon, spent yeast, honeysuckle, soft spice, lemon butter, clotted cream, crushed stone and white flowers. Textural, creamy and gloriously lemony with a swoop of gingerbread, roasted cashews and whey. Such lovely slinky drinking with a briny acid line that sets the saliva glands working and screams for a roast chook." - Dave Brookes, Halliday Wine Companion 22nd May 2023
93pts "Medium pale lemon hue. Picks up where the 2021 left off with lemon curd and roast chicken skin, honeysuckle, candle wax and gingernut biscuit. Depth and heft: oak and lees work give creamy, leesy richness with ginger spice, fine phenolics and zesty citrus cuts. That briny signature leaves the palate in a dichotomy: salivating and refreshed both at once. Unique and worthy." - Regan Drew, Vino Notebook
"Brilliant, youthful yellow, with lemon zest, pastry, knife through cold butter aromas. Medium-weight, chunk of a glass of wine. Hits your pallet and doesn't forgive. Tangy with viscosity and lime, lemon, ruby grapefruit, green apple skin and powdery tannins. Flash of Solo, the original thirst crusher. That's Aussie soda 😉! So looong it touches my toes. Old vine Barossa sem. 2022. Benchmark stuff." - @frasermackenzie.wine
2021 SILVER - 2022 Barossa Wine Show
93pts "Medium pale lemon hue. Lemon curd, malt biscuit, ginger, roast nuts, roast chicken briny tang and with slightly sweeter structures of honeysuckle and birthday candle. Refreshing yet complex. The oak work giving nutty nuance with chewy phenolics while the well built fruit is ginger spiced, citrus focused and dry. There’s a very good counterpoint of weight and acidity creating a fundamentally delicious drink." - Regan Drew, vinonotebook.com
93pts "Barossa Valley old vine semillon, done right. Gosh this is good. It sees some oak and so, accordingly, it has some texture, but the flavour profile is all fruit, and all good. Brine, honeysuckle, citrus and stonefruit characters all get a good run here, the palate full-ish and the finish long. The perfume, the flavour, the feel; all are in tip-top nick here. I particularly love the briney aftertaste here, it just begs to be teamed with food." - Campbell Mattinson, The Wine Front
92pts "An unusually wine-y and waxy, rich and textural style of semillon, but this also has an impressive freshness on the well-proportioned palate with quite an exciting interplay of creaminess and limey acidity. Wild fermented partly in French oak puncheons, then aged 6 months on the lees. Unfined. Vegan. Drink or hold. Screw cap." - James Suckling
90pts "
Pale and bright straw-yellow colour. Lemon curd, lime zest and caramelised cashews on the nose. The palate fills and builds texture as it flows, sweet lime and lemon fruit notes alongside a smoky and nutty spice line. Quite full for a semillon and it works." - Stuart Knox, The Real Review
